About Singapore?

Singapore is an island country off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, in the Southeast Asian region of the Asian continent. It comprises the main island of Singapore and some 63 offshore islands. Singapore has a highly developed market-based economy. Along with Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan, Singapore is one of the Four Asian Tigers. The economy depends heavily on exports and refining imported goods, especially in manufacturing and includes significant electronics, petroleum refining, chemicals, mechanical engineering and biomedical sciences sectors. Singapore has a tropical rainforest climate with no distinctive seasons, uniform temperature and pressure, high humidity, and abundant rainfall. Due to its diverse population and immigrant background, Singaporean culture has often been described as a mix of cultures – British, Malay, Chinese, Indian and Peranakan. Foreigners also make up 42% of the population.

Once you have received an acceptance letter (valid for two weeks) from an institute of higher education in Singapore, you need to apply for a Students Pass to be eligible to stay there. However, if you already have a Dependent Pass or an Immigration Exemption Order, you may be able to bypass this stage. You should make your application for a Students Pass to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (www.ica.gov.sg). You can do this online using the Students Pass Online Application & Registration (SOLAR) system. A student's Pass is generally valid for the entire duration of your course. Those applying for a Students Pass for the first time must submit their application not more than two months, and not less than one month, before their course begins
